We would like to share the memory of our brother officers
who gave their life in the line of duty
at the Dothan Police Department .
Officer Hugh DeShazo. Officer DeShazo began his employment with the Dothan Police Department on November 16, 1914 as a Police Officer. On December 7, 1914, Officer DeShazo was shot and fatally wounded while talking on a telephone in the "Dixie Grocery Store". Officer DeShazo was transported to a local infirmary where he died the next day from his injuries.
Sergeant Shelby Owens. Sgt. Owens began his service in April of 1951. He was promoted to Sergeant in February of 1970. Less than nine months later, and one month away from retirement, on November 9, 1970, he was killed while escorting a funeral procession as a motorcycle officer.
Lieutenant Robert Jackson. Sgt. Jackson began his duty in April of 1972. He was promoted to Sergeant in October of 1975. On January 31, 1978, he pulled up to his home and got out of his car. Someone shot Sgt. Jackson and killed him. Posthumously promoted to Lt. in 2006.
Corporal Robert E. Armstrong. Cpl. Armstrong began his public service in April of 1978. While conducting DUI enforcement on the night of January 19, 1985, Robert was struck head-on by a drunk driver who was driving on the wrong side of the Ross Clark Circle. He died a short time later.
