What do I need to do after a vehicle crash?
How do I recover an impounded vehicle?
You will need a copy of the Police Department Accident Report in order to file an insurance claim. If the report was filed by a Dothan police officer, a copy of the report can be obtained from the Police Records Division at 210 N. St. Andrews Street, 615-4650.
Call your insurance company as soon as possible after the crash. The law requires that you file an SR-13 Form with the State of Alabama within 30 days of the accident. If you do not file this form within 30 days, your driver's license will be suspended until the form is filed. You may obtain blank SR-13 forms at the Dothan Police Department at 210 N. St. Andrews Street.
If the Dothan Police Department ordered your vehicle towed, you must fill out a release form and turn it in before you can retrieve your vehicle. You will need to bring proof of ownership and a current driver's license or other picture identification to the 24 hour entrance at the Dothan City Jail on the Troy Street side of the Police Department.

If your vehicle has been abandoned on the roadway
The owner of an impounded vehicle is the only one that can pick up the vehicle. The owner must go to the Dothan Police Department (Jail Entrance) (334) 615-4635, 210 N. St. Andrews Street, and present a current State Driver's License (if not a licensed driver, they must present other photo identification and you must have a licensed driver with them to retrieve the vehicle) and proof of ownership.

Officer Dispatch - By calling the Dothan Police Department Communications Center at (334) 615-3000, an officer will be dispatched to the site of the incident and will prepare a written report.
